Jolla Launches Sailfish OS: A preview

The new age operating system will be compatible with devices such as smartphones, tablets, televisions and even automobile systems.

Independent Finnish software developer Jolla has showcased a new mobile operating system called Sailfish that claims to provide better multitasking than existing smartphones. While unveiling the software development kit, the company said that the operating system features effortless multitasking, allowing users toswitch between running applications directly on the home screen, ending a call or pausing a song without having to enter the application.
It is aimed to be used on a wide range of devices including smartphones, tablets, smart televisions andeven automobiles. According to a website, its multi-tasking menu works similarly to Windows Phone, showing the cards of each running application. However, instead of entering the app, users are able to press and hold the app tile, displaying options available for that particular title. “Sailfish has been developed to remove the elements that often take up some of your smartphone’sscreen real-estate. Instead ofdisplaying the battery life and signal indicators, Jolla has moved them to the lockscreen, allowing you to maximise what is shown on your display,” said a report of The Next Web.
“Instead of using the pull down to refresh content or show notifications, Jolla’s OS allows users to display menu items that help share photos or videos to social networks with the push of a button,” the report further added. Sailfish is a Linux-based mobile operating system and is built on top of the Mer operating system core, which is the revival of the MeeGo operating system project of Nokia, Intel, and Linux Foundation.
Sailfish includes a proprietary user interface that is built entirely by the company itself and unlike Android, Sailfish operating system will be governed by licensing terms, which means that companies will have to take the OS from the company for their devices, just like Microsoft Windows Phone operating system.
Editor’s Punch: ‘Sailfish’ 🙂 looks alike then symbian, android,wp 😆 I guess the creator of this OS had a fish market and used to sail everyday 😀
