Samsung

As the end of the year approaches, the rumour mill about the next Galaxy S device from Samsung seems to be going into overdrive.
While the Samsung Galaxy S III was unveiled in May this year, there’s plenty of buzz that its successor may be unveiled a bit earlier next year. With twobig events at the start of the year, expect to hear more about the Samsung Galaxy S IV either at CES in Las Vegas in January, or (more likely) at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February 2013.

The first bit of rumour comes from Korean site Asiae and it says that the Samsung Galaxy S IV will have a 4.99-inch Super AMOLED display with 1920*1080 resolution, giving it a pixel density of 441PPI. That report is in line with earlier rumours which suggested that Samsung and LG are working on smartphones with full-HD display which may be releasedin first-half of 2013. It would make sense for Samsung’s next flagship device to be its first smartphones with full-HD display .
According to another report , the Galaxy S IV will feature a 13-megapixel camera, a significant upgrade over the Galaxy S III’s 8-megapixel rear shooter.
In addition to the above, there’s more buzz about the Galaxy S IV featuring a 2 GHz quad-core Exynos processor and an 8-core GPU.
Editor’s Punch: Hope this rumour turns out reality and we’l have an awesome phone again 😀

Posted on June 5, 2012. Filed under: Mobile, Technology | Tags: , , , , , , |

Samsung’s next generation Galaxy Note will feature a slightly bigger 5.6 inch display and a much faster processor along with S-voice.

Samsung may come out with a bigger and better version of its Galaxy Note smartphone. No we are not referring to theGalaxy note 10.1 but a slightlybigger more pocket able device much similar to the older Galaxy Note.
Although Samsung officially is yet to comment on the device’s existence but Ubuntulife.nethas some prettyconvincing information about the upcoming device. According to the report, the device called the Galaxy Note 2 will be inspired form the Samsung Galaxy S III smartphone and will have features of the Galaxy S II likethe S-Voice, S-Beam and a nature inspired deign too.
The Galaxy Note was the firstdevice to sport a 5.3 inch HD Super Amoled display. But the Galaxy Note 2 reportedly would have a slightly larger 5.5-inch display with WSXGA+ (1680×1050) and 360 pixel density. The reason for not going in with a full HD resolution is that human eye can’t perceive separate pixelsif the pixel density is over 300 ppi, making it pointless. The Galaxy Note 2 will featureSuper Amoled display with a similar PenTile matrix as the Galaxy S III.
In the Galaxy Note 2, Samsungis expected to utilise the Exynos 5250 processor whichis built on latest ARM Cortex-A15 CPU processor architecture along with a muchfaster graphic engine for superior performance. Along with that the Galaxy Note 2 is also likely to get 1.5 GB of RAMfor clutter free operations. The Galaxy Note 2 will have 8-megapixel camera with improved lens and image sensor for better images and videos.
Although there is nothing concrete that can be said about the device’s existence but looking at the popularity and the global acceptance for the Galaxy Note, it is likely to have another device in the same series. Samsung is expected to announce the launch of this device in the month of October this year, when details of its features and price would be made public.

Samsung Launches Music Hub as iTunes rival

Posted on May 29, 2012. Filed under: Technology | Tags: , , |

Samsung has launched a new musicservice on the Galaxy S3, its flagship smartphone.

Samsung has launched a new music service on the Galaxy S3, itsflagship smartphone that rolls out across Europe, to boost its appeal in competition with top devices like Apple’s iPhone.
TJ Kang, senior vice president of Samsung Electronics’ Media Solution Center, said it was the first time the company had created its own music service from scratch.
“Samsung is not known for our content services; we make good hardware products but we haven’t done much in the content space but that’s changing,” he told Reuters.
“We are doing it to create a better experience for our users. There are things we could do better if we have complete control over all of the service.”
The company has previouslyrebranded existing music and video services on its devices, where they competewith music stores from the likes of Google and Amazon and streaming services suchas Spotify and Pandora Media.
Fred Huet at Greenwich Consulting said the mobile phone was increasingly at the heart of a lot more mediaconsumption, and Apple had established a formidable lead.
“A lot of the other players are still trying to find the magic formula that can use tocounter iTunes ,” he said.
Samsung’s Music Hub Premium allows users to upload music to the cloud and access it from a PC and up to five mobile devices as well as stream songs for 9.99 pounds or euros a month, said Daren Tsui, chiefexecutive of developer mPpot, which Samsung bought earlier this month.
Users will also be able to buy tunes from a 19 million song catalogue, with prices comparable to iTunes, he said.

Samsung releases Android 4.0 ICS for Galaxy Note in India

Posted on May 23, 2012. Filed under: Mobile, Technology | Tags: , , , , , , |

Samsung Galaxy Note will start receiving the update notification for the Android 4.0 ICS with TouchWiz update.

Samsung has finally started rolling out the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for its Galaxy Note GT-N7000 smartphones in India. While the Galaxy S II GT-I9100 owners continue to rub their hands, the Galaxy Note users get lucky with this massive update. The new Android 4.0 ICS update also brings slightly tweaked TouchWiz layer.
Earlier this month, The Mobile Indian reported about the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update bring rolled out for the USA and Europe based Samsung Galaxy Note owners. Now, Samsung has quietly made the Android 4.0.3 ICS update build IML74K available for Indian Galaxy Note GT-N7000 owners through Samsung Kies software.
India based Galaxy Note users need to connect their smartphone to the Samsung Kies desktop manager and check for the update. Jonas Bashige, user based in Bangalore, shared a screenshot of the Galaxy Note updated with Android 4.0.3 ICS over Twitter.
Apart from the other usual improvements, the new update brings a new series of S Pen supporting widgets which are clubbed together to form a Premium Suite.
For those who haven’t received over-the-air notification about the software update on their Galaxy Note can try connecting it to Samsung Kies desktop software. If the update doesn’t show up then the users need to try may be later.
Surprising part is that despite of the fact that Android 4.0.3 ICS update is available for Galaxy S II GT-I9100, the Indian users continue to wait for the update.

Hopefully in coming weeks, these Galaxy SII users will start receiving the Android 4.0 ICS update.

News started spreading, as a few buyers of GS2s expressed their delight on Twitter . Reportedly, only thedevices imported in April or later are offering ICS firmware out of the box. Sadly, those who already own a GS2 in India, will haveto wait further for the OTA ( Over The Air ) update to be made available.

Earlier we had reported about Samsung selling watered-down GALAXY S IIs with model number GT-9100G in India. Thankfully, the current crop of GS2 appears to have a model number GT-I9100 , which is the same as that of the original GS2. This means that in all probability, the handset is powered by the Exynos chipset.
